Today is National Cheeseburger Day! 🎉🍔 The Today is National Cheeseburger Day! 🎉🍔 

The cheeseburger's roots trace back to the 1920s when somebody decided to add cheese to a burger patty. 

Not rocket science, but the idea took off. Americans devour approximately 50 billion burgers each year! 

Now, let's talk HEALTHY hacks to enjoy that cheeseburger without derailing your wellness goals:

1️⃣ Go lean: Opt for lean ground beef or try turkey or plant-based patties for a healthier base.

2️⃣ Veggie Boost: Load up on veggies like lettuce, tomatoes, grilled portobello mushrooms, roasted red peppers, and/or onions for flavor, texture variety, and added nutrients.

3️⃣ Thoughtful Cheese Choices: tThoughtful Cheese Choices: The cheese is the differentiating factor of the cheeseburger, so make it count. Choose a part-skim cheese or opt for a flavorful cheese like spicy Pepper Jack, smoky Gouda, tangy Feta, creamy Brie, or bold and savory Blue cheese. {The bolder the cheese, the less you need because a little goes a long way.}

4️⃣ Better Buns: Choose a whole grain or whole wheat bun for extra fiber, or skip the bun and enjoy your burger wrapped in lettuce.

5️⃣ Portion Control: Share with a friend or wrap half for later to avoid overindulging.

FB popped this memory into my feed. It piqued my curiosity and motivated me to stop scrolling, get off the couch and hit the pavement.

I rummaged through my closet, found and pulled on that same running skirt, and a similar tank, laced up my Brooks and headed out to enjoy the 86 degrees, active breeze, warm sun on my skin and the gift of movement. 

As I exercised, my mind wandered back over the past 11 years, a period marked by exploration, discovery, growth, and a multitude of experiences. 

The years also held loss, grief, change and uncertainty - the depths of which I had never experienced or imagined. #IYKYK 
(Not to mention my rollercoaster of biological and emotional transitions from geriatric pregnancy rebound and the end of nursing, straight into perimenopause, menopause and post menopause. 🤦🏾‍♀️)

In and through it all, God held, progressed and blessed. I’m grateful. 

I’m grateful my mind remains sound, my soul is more firmly anchored, and I’m grateful for maintenance of the health and fitness of my body. 

I view and prioritize my health habits as spiritual disciplines, and know they ground and benefit me holistically, both in good times and when facing challenges.
